Decking and Jacuzzi Remodel

A full deck rebuild on a hillside Berkeley property, built around a custom round hot tub insert and finished with a tall redwood privacy fence.

This project combined a structural deck rebuild with a fully custom hot tub installation. We re-framed the deck on galvanized steel runners set into a board-formed concrete retaining wall, then built out new redwood and ipe decking around a round cedar hot tub sunk into the platform. Every deck board surrounding the tub was cut to its own radial angle so the curve reads clean from every side — that kind of layout work only pays off if it's planned before the first board gets cut. The tub itself uses a riveted insulated cover to keep heat in between uses. A tall board-formed privacy fence wraps the perimeter, set at a height that balances privacy with the surrounding tree-line views. The result is a private, usable outdoor space built specifically around the hot tub as the centerpiece.
